From Cory Silverberg, your Guide to Sexuality
This week we dig back into the National Survey of Sexual Health and Behavior to find out more about American's orgasms. I'd call it an exercise in narcissism, except they're not all having them, and I'm Canadian, so that makes it okay. ~ Cory

Orgasms Across the Nation
The belief, sometimes referred to as the "orgasmic imperative", that all great sex does - and rightly should - result in an orgasm, is both an odd and tenacious one. Odd because when you ask people about the sexual moments they remember the most from their past, rarely do they talk about the orgasm. Tenacious because...well maybe just because when they do happen, they usually feel pretty good. This week we look at what the almost 6,000 Americans surveyed for the National Survey of Sexual Health and Behavior reported about their orgasms and themselves.

How Can You Tell If You've Had an Orgasm?
I'm in my first year of college and most of my friends are sleeping around a lot. They all talk about having orgasms which sound mind-blowing. I've never been that comfortable with my body, I don't even masturbate, but I've had sex a few times and I think I felt something like an orgasm, but it wasn't anything like what my friends are describing. Is there some test that can tell me if I've had an orgasm or some way of knowing for sure?

When You Can't Orgasm
There are many reasons why someone may feel like they can't orgasm. The first thing that's important to know is that just because you aren't having orgasms, and even if you've never had an orgasm, that doesn't necessarily mean you can't have an orgasm. It's also worth pointing out that there are lots of great sexual acts that don't involve orgasms. But if you're goal is to orgasm, read on.

Unexpected Orgasms
While most of us would like to have more orgasms than we do, there are all sorts of social rules (and more than a few laws) that make it prudent to have orgasms only at certain times and in certain places. Unexpected orgasms, also called "atypical orgasms" by researchers, are orgasms that happen either at a time and place that we don't expect, or in the absence of sexual stimulation which usually precedes an orgasm.
