From Fiona Haynes, your Guide to Low Fat Cooking
As I write this week's newsletter, it doesn't feel much like summer. Rain has returned to the Pacific Northwest, making me want to reach for the soup pot. But as the Labor Day weekend is almost here in the U.S., it gives us one more excuse to enjoy some summer fare, whether it's raining or not.

How to Make Low Fat Burgers
We know what it takes to make a moist, juicy burger -- rather a lot of fat. But if you want to keep your fat intake in check, here are some tips and suggestions for trimming the fat from this summer favorite.

Turkey Burgers
One such lower-fat burger is made with ground lean turkey, and I have to say, these moist burgers are huge hit with my kids, who prefer them to burgers made with beef.

Black Bean Patties
Black bean "burgers" make a great alternative to regular burgers. Even my hamburger-loving husband thinks these are really good. Perhaps a bit fragile for the grill, these burgers cook very well in a hot oven, or in a nonstick skillet for three or four minutes per side.

Green Bean Salad
I can't stand soggy bean salads where the green beans are gray and soggy. This green bean salad maintains its bright green color and has a slight crunch.
