Can Ortho Tri-cyclen Improve Acne? Posted By: Shawn Everette
Accutane is one of the most potent acne remedy and can, in some cases, virtually eliminate the problem. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most hazardous. Acne is a skin condition that shows up as different types of bumps. They include whiteheads, blackheads, red bumps (pimples), and bumps that are filled with pus (pustules). Bacteria (especially one called Propionibacterium acnes) can then get trapped inside the pores and multiply, causing swelling and redness - the start of acne.If you search the internet for "acne medications," you'll find dozens of products, all claiming they can cure your acne. The majority of these products claim they can do this by killing the acne bacteria on your skin. There are two types of acne treatments: topical and supplementary. Topical treatments are applied directly to the skin. If the wall breaks deep in the skin, acne nodules or cysts can form. This website analyzes the best acne treatments for both adults and teenagers currently on the market. If the acne is severe or lasts beyond 6 months, your pediatrician may prescribe a mild medicine to help. But does medicated makeup really clear acne?
Topical Antibiotics Are Effective Posted By: Shawn Everette
For patients with severe inflammatory acne that does not improve with medicines such as those described above, a doctor may prescribe isotretinoin (Accutane*), a retinoid. Isotretinoin is an oral drug that is usually taken once or twice a day with food for 15 to 20 weeks. Retinoids increase penetration and reduce comedones, while topical antibiotics primarily address inflammation. One side effect of topical antibacterial treatment is an increase in drug-resistant resident skin flora with gram-nega tive microorganisms prevailing, which can lead to gram-negative folliculitis. Topical retinoids work by increasing skin cell turnover promoting the extrusion of the plugged material in the follicle. They also prevent the formation of new comedones.Topical use of antibiotics is currently a widely accepted effective and safe treatment for acne. A review of the articles published in the past 30 years revealed that topical application of antibiotics such as erythromycin, clindamycin or tetracycline showed clinical effectiveness for mild to moderate inflammatory acne, especially when they are combined with zinc, tretinoin or benzoyl peroxide, while they showed little influence on non-inflammatory acne. Topical antibiotics are especially effective in treating inflammatory acne. Inflammatory acne involves reddish and painful lesions on the face that often cause disfiguring, darkened scars.
