Stopping Lyme Disease, Preventing An Epidemic Posted By: sandi smith
1975, in Lyme, Connecticut, USA, the world realized a new threat to human health. The eponymous Lyme Disease entered human language. Since then, researchers have ferreted out the cause and means of transmission of the disease, but we are still struggling to understand and fight it, even as it spreads around the US and Canada, wreaking havoc. Lyme Disease is caused by several bacteria. We currently know of three strains - Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato, Borrelia afzelii, and Borrelia garinii, the first infecting the US and the latter two infecting Europe - but new strains may still be discovered. These bacteria are carried by small rodents and other animals, such as mice and squirrels, and then transmitted through ticks to humans. Ticks - parasitic arachnids found on most continents - may bite a small animal with one of these bacteria then may then bite a human, giving them the bacteria from which they contract Lyme Disease. The disease is potentially fatal if untreated. However, certain antibiotics are somewhat effective at treating the illness and eliminating symptoms. The disease usually causes a skin rash known as erythema migrans from one day to one month after a bite.
The Cure To The Anaplasmosis Pandemic Posted By: sandi smith
The headlines are everywhere: "New Lyme Disease Claims 50 Lives"; "Chinese Tick-born Illness Strikes Again"; "Chinese Plague Threatens US". However, it is unclear exactly how dangerous this disease truly is. Yes, tens of people have died and hundreds more likely will, but this is a disease that is thousands of miles away and has fatalities only among the poor. With good modern medical treatment, would there really be a problem? Anaplasmosis in the US and Canada Human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA) is a bacterial infection spread by ticks - parasitic arachnids that feed on the blood of their hosts. Because Lyme Disease is also carried and spread by ticks, HGA has drawn many comparisons in the world media. In the United States, where Lyme Disease is common, there have been fears spread in the media that anaplasmosis could spread like Californian wildfires throughout wooded states. Ironically anaplasmosis has been in the US for a while now. The Northeast and northern Midwest regions have had a number of cases. What remains unclear, however, is whether the strain of anaplasmosis found in China - caused by a particular type of the bacteria Anaplasma phagocytophilum - is present in North America.
How To Get Rid Of Stds With Antibiotics Posted By: sandi smith
There are certain antibiotics that can be very effective in treating amoeba and bacterial infections that are generally characterized as sexually transmitted diseases. However, some common side effects of using antibiotics are nausea and stomach discomfort. These drugs should be taken with a full glass of water, and depending on your tolerance you may need to take a full meal in order to make the drug work better. Most antibiotic medications are used in a wide range of conditions ranging from respiratory tract infections to sexually transmitted diseases, from urinary tract problems to acne. And you may find yourself taking the same drug for treating syphilis and throat infection. Despite the fact that STDs have become quite widespread, it still seems to be a taboo for discussion in our society as the large public is not willing to discuss these diseases and their treatment openly. People know that there's a problem with the raise in rates of sexually transmitted diseases infection, yet no one is speaking out loud about the subject, and when someone gets infected the treatment is usually conducted in strict confidence.
Antibiotic Acne Treatment Posted By: sandi smith
There are special synthetic derivatives of natural antibiotics like tetracycline that can be used for treating acne. There are a lot of generic and branded variations of these drugs you will find in your local pharmacy so if there's no specific label you may want to try another one. Some may be more effective, others - a bit less. But these antibiotics all serve the purpose of preventing the s pread of bacteria, which cause acne development. Doxycycline is a popular wide-range antibiotic available in oral forms such as pills, capsules, syrups and suspensions. This drug is very easy to take as it requires only a full glass of water to swallow the pill. You may also need a full meal if your stomach is sensitive and you experience disorders after taking this antibiotic. This drug has a couple of positive aspects that make it more preferable than other similar antibiotics such as minocycline. Not only Doxycycline is cheaper, but it also doesn't deliver any serious negative side effects such as dizziness, skin disorders and vertigo. Another great factor that makes this medication so easy to use is that its absorption is not affected by the food you have taken.
Common Acne Treatment Cures Childhood Cancer? Posted By: sandi smith
Neuroblastoma is a type of cancer that afflicts babies and children. The malignant tumor grows in their nerve tissue, causing fever, general illness, and pain at first, then a loss of appetite, weight loss, diarrhea, and vomiting. The children may also have problems with movement and balance, as well as difficulty breathing, coughing, red skin, pale skin, bluish skin around the eyes, lots of sweating, and a fast pulse, depending on the site of the tumor. Eventually, the children often die. Sometimes though, treatments work. Treatment The conventional way of attacking the cancer is to remove it surgically. Usually, doctors also add chemotherapy and even radiation therapy to the mix. It usually depends on where the cancer is. The growth commonly occurs in the adrenal gland, the spinal cord, or chest initially, from where it spreads throughout the bones, liver, lymph nodes, skin, and around the eyes. To locate the cancer, doctors use X-rays, bone scans, CT scans, and MRIs. Prognosis Some children are very lucky and their cancer just goes away without treatment. For others, treatment works.
Acne: The Real Teen Suicide Culprit Posted By: sandi smith
Suicide prevention websites like Suicide.org have been vocally declaring that teens should avoid taking acne several medications that treat the most severe acne around. This issue came up because of the unfortunate suicide of U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak's son. The young man was taking isotretinoin to treat his severe acne. The incident occurred after an all-night alcohol party. While just about anyone who commits suicide is medically considered a victim, usually of depression, the presence of this drug is not the culprit. A study came out that found the presence of this drug in a large percentage of suicidal teens who had acne. The problem is, as it is the drug tasked with succeeding against acne when all others have failed, it is only natural that it would be present. The real culprit may be the acne itself, as a more recent study has found. Doctors have argued that the situation is similar to the stigma penicillin once suffered. Many people thought it caused a severe rash. The FDA even made it come with a warning. Later studies found that it was the infection penicillin treated that caused the rash.
2 Foods That Are Causing Pimples On Your Body Posted By: Josh Johnston

New Zealand Offers Hope Posted By: sandi smith
One of the longer running political hot potatoes has been tort reform. Talk to anyone in the GOP and they will tell you we are going to Hell in a basket because every time anything goes wrong, a gang of attorneys jumps out of the undergrowth and starts suing the pants off you. Needl ess to say, the liberals think the willingness of attorneys to sue protects consumers. Where would we be without someone to claim if we fall ill after eating food in a restaurant, or we think we are braking only to find our vehicle speeding on out of control? This makes for a wonderful battleground, particularly in the area of healthcare where doctors are only too keen to protect their reputations and prevent anyone from realizing how many mistakes they make. So, the GOP promises it will ringfence attorneys and either limit the scope of the law, or cap the amount of damages the courts can award. The Democrats promise more consumer protection laws. Against this background, it's interesting to compare what happens elsewhere. And you can't get anymore elsewhere than New Zealand.
Acne Affecting More Adults Now Posted By: sandi smith
Once children are old enough to start to talking to each other about what it's going to be like when they are teens, the first thing mentioned is likely to be acne. Forget all the other sources of angst. This is the one big fear to confront. And, because they all start talking about it young, they create a mythology about when it's first likely to appear, what causes it and how long it lasts. They start monitoring their faces. They speculate on how well they are likely to stand up to the comments. It becomes a dominant part of their lives. We can all wish it were not so. There's just so much cruelty out there. But, until there's a cultural revolution and we all decide to accept each other as p eople, the young will no doubt keep on torturing each other. Except it's no longer just a problem for the young. The latest figures suggest that about 15% of adult women are now asking for acne treatment. This may simply be more women asking their doctors for treatment rather than relying on cosmetic and beauty salons, or it may reflect a real rise in the "problem".
Here's The Truth About Getting Rid Of Acne & Clear Skin Posted By: Josh Johnston
If you've struggled with acne in the past or are currently fighting it, then you already know how frustrating it can be to get rid of. No matter what you try it just doesn't go away! In the past I've tried all sorts of face washes, topical creams, and even drugs to clear up my skin but nothing worked in the long run. I'm guessing you know exactly what I'm talking about. The reason I tried all the 'solutions' that just focus on the symptom (pimples) and not actually trying to find the root causes is because my doctor told me to. He kept saying that diet had nothing to do with it and all the natural remedies for acne that you hear about aren't true. How silly of me to believe him! The Truth Behind Natural Remedies For Acne It wasn't until later in my life that I realized that the only way to get rid of acne for good are through homeopathic remedies. I was skeptical for a long time because I didn't think keeping my body healthy was all that important.
