What Is Iron Deficiency Anemia?
Iron deficiency anemia is the most common type of anemia. Those most affected by iron deficiency anemia include young children, girls who have reached menarche, and women during their reproductive years. About half of all pregnant women experience iron deficiency anemia during their pregnancies. Overall, at least 1 out of 5 girls and women experience iron deficiency anemia at some point during their reproductive years.

The Symptoms Of Iron Deficiency Anemia
When your iron level is too low, you may have iron deficiency anemia. The most common symptom of iron deficiency anemia is fatigue. If you don't have enough hemoglobin in your blood, you will feel tired or wear out more easily. Hemoglobin is an iron-rich protein in the blood that carries oxygen throughout your body.

Treatments For Iron Deficiency Anemia
While excessive blood loss most commonly causes iron deficiency anemia, increasing your dietary intake of iron-rich foods can both help prevent and treat low iron levels in your blood.

What Is Iron Overload?
As women, we are often reminded about our special need for iron, and so iron overload may seem like the last potential we need to consider. For most of us, it is. Many women consume iron supplements to bridge the gap with no issues. However, for more than 1 million Americans, iron supplementation can have devastating consequences.
