From Ann Pizer, your Guide to Yoga
Tantra is a mystical practice, and also a mysterious one. Since the philosophy behind Anusara Yoga is based on tantra, I was pleased recently to have the opportunity to ask Anusara founder John Friend some questions about it.

Tantra and Anusara
As John Friend notes, many in the west associate tantra with ritualized sex, but there is much more to tantric philosophy.

Anusara Yoga
Anusara yoga was founded by John Friend in 1997 and has been gaining loyal followers ever since. Anusara fills the need for an alignment-based vinyasa practice with a strong dose of spirituality.

Anusara in Encinitas
Anusara world headquarters will soon be opening in Encinitas, California, and is sure to become a sought-after destination for Anusara devotees. Check out the link for a cool, animated promotional video explaining Encinitas' significance in western yoga.

Pose of the Week -Seated Straddle - Upavista Konasana
For people with tight hips and hamstrings, just sitting in upavista konasana is a big challenge, never mind coming into a forward bend. One of the best ways to find some space in this pose is to bring some lift to your seat with one or more folded blankets. A slight bend in the knees is also a good way to ease your way in. When you do begin to come forward, think about tipping from the pelvis, not rounding into it from the spine.
