As someone who sees most of his patients in nursing homes, I sometimes have to remind myself that even though most of the patients I see have moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease, there are millions of people out there with mild, or early-stage Alzheimer's. Considering a study I blogged about yesterday emerged this week showing no effect of the drug memantine in mild Alzheimer's, I thought I'd focus today's newsletter on early stage disease.
