This week we're talking about the second most common surgical procedure performed on women -- hysterectomy. The only surgery we have more often is cesarean sections. Have a healthy week! Tracee

Things To Know Before You Have A Hysterectomy
Are you facing a hysterectomy? Learn the facts about hysterectomy and alternatives before you decide whether hysterectomy is the right choice for you. Find out when hysterectomy is elective surgery and when it is necessary to save your life.

Hysterectomy Alternatives
Each year, in the United States, over a half million women undergo hysterectomy. In most cases, hysterectomy also includes oophorectomy or ovarian removal. In no other part of the world is hysterectomy performed this often. By age 60, at least 33 percent of women have already undergone hysterectomy. Amazingly, 90 percent of these surgeries are classified as 'elective' surgery or surgery performed by choice and not as a lifesaving procedure.

Do I Still Need Pap Smears After Hysterectomy?
There's a lot of debate about the answer to this question. Find out when, and if, having a Pap smear is required after hysterectomy.

Share Your Hysterectomy Story
If you have had a hysterectomy, share your story of what led you to decide hysterectomy was the right choice for you. Whether you are happy or not with your hysterectomy, share your story. BTW, there are not many happy hysterectomy stories out there. I think this must be because women who are happy with their hysterectomy don't often feel the need to tell their happy hysterectomy stories. But, it would really help women trying to decide on having a hysterectomy, if they could read more happy hysterectomy stories. So, please share the good and the bad about your hysterectomy!
