From Daniel More, MD, your Guide to Allergies
Football season is in full swing, and for those of you who love NCAA college or NFL football, you just might be having a tailgating party before going to the big game. With all the excitement, team colors, painted faces and good food, allergies would be the last thing on your mind during such an event. However, there are many possible allergic triggers that could occur during a tailgate party -- from food allergies caused by the snacks, to alcohol allergy for the person that enjoyed a few too many, and from the barbecue smoke itself causing allergies, you need to be prepared to treat allergic symptoms on game day.

Alcohol Allergy
We've all enjoyed alcoholic beverages, and many of us have experienced the unpleasant side effects of enjoying these drinks a bit too much. But imagine if you couldn't drink alcohol -- not even a little -- because you experience uncomfortable reactions as a result. There are many reasons for these reactions, with allergies being only a small part of the causes of these reactions.

Barbecue Allergy
Mesquite, oak, cedar and hickory are types of wood used for this barbecuing -- they are also trees that produce pollen that many people with seasonal allergies are allergic to. It appears that the allergen in this type of pollen is also contained within the wood of the tree; these allergens survive combustion and remain in smoke once the wood is burned.

All About Food Allergies
Your doctor has just told you that you have food allergies. Now what? Unless you had a long discussion with him or her as to what this means, you're probably feeling a bit overwhelmed right now. You might be thinking, "What symptoms should I look for? How was this diagnosed? What are the treatments available? Will my food allergy ever go away?" These questions, and others, are common when a person is first diagnosed with food allergies. Find out the answers to these questions and more.

Allergy Basics
The page covers topics which are basic to the understanding of allergic diseases in general. A brief question and answer format is used in an easy to read and understand manner.
