How is your summer going? I hope you're enjoying the out of doors! I was at a wonderful picnic yesterday with interesting people, but the food pickings were slim. There was the salad I brought and some deviled eggs, and then everything else was Carb City! I can't wait until the ideas of what is "healthy" starts to change! Mixed Messages about Carbohydrates
This is part 2 of my blog series about the 2010 U.S. Dietary Guideline proposal. This section is about carbohydrates, and it's more interesting that I thought. Although they are still loudly proclaiming that "carbs are good!", there are also hints that they may think they've gone a little too far in bringing home that message.

Low-Carb Substitutes for High-Carb Foods
What do you miss? Bread? Crackers? Desserts? Rather than cave in and eat some, discover some low-carb substitutes.

Glycemic Index Food Lists
Truth to tell, I think the glycemic index is not nearly as helpful as simply avoiding high-carb foods. But there are some interesting insights to be gained from checking out some of these lists.

Low-Carb Diets and Your Bones
One of the persistent arguments against low-carb eating is that it will cause bone loss. There is no evidence for this -- in fact, more protein may even protect our bones!
