| | Outdoor yoga classes have long been popular in the warm summer months, but are you ready to move your practice from the beach right out into the water? If so, yoga on a stand-up paddle board (SUP) might be your dream come true. Read on to see what happened when I tried yoga's newest trend. | | SUP Yoga Stand-up paddling boarding has been getting more popular over the past few years as a fun way to be out on the water and get some exercise at the same time. The board is broad and stable enough that someone got the bright idea of treating it like a floating yoga mat, and SUP yoga was born. | Yoga on the Wii Weirdly enough, SUP yoga reminded me of using the Wii Fit Balance Board. Both reveal subtle imbalances in your body that you can't discern when simply standing on your yoga mat. I hear you can pick up a Wii for cheap these days, but SUP yoga offers much better scenery. | Get in Shape with Yoga If you're looking the get in shape, SUP yoga definitely ups the ante by tapping in to your inner core muscles that are used for balance. Paddling the board also provides an extra little workout. | Pose of the Week - Half Forward Bend - Ardha Uttanasana Ardha uttanasana is also referred to as "flat back." But how flat is your back in this pose? The first time I saw I picture of myself doing it, I was surprised to find that what felt flat to me didn't look that flat on the outside. The answer was to move my hands from the floor to my shins, which allowed my shoulders to drop and my spine to extend. See if you feel the same effect. | | | | Yoga Ads | | | | Featured Articles | | | | | | Sign up for more free newsletters on your favorite topics | | | | You are receiving this newsletter because you subscribed to the About Yoga newsletter.
