| | We could use this as some kind of Rorschach Test. When you read the headline "Tax Pays for Disabled Sex Sessions" what's the first thing that comes to your mind? This week's newsletter is a lot about the spaces between things. The space between what people say they will do and what they do, between what we're supposed to do and what we want to do, between one person's truth and another person's fiction, between what's fact and what's f*#@ed up. These are the spaces where we live. ~ Cory | | 400 Words Between Fact and F*#@ed Up About once a year there is a story in some paper about people with disabilities and sex workers. Sometimes the articles are positive, profiling what is described as a progressive or sex positive approach to disability. Other times the coverage is negative, leading readers to understand that their tax dollars are going to free sex for disabled people. In almost all cases the people covering the story either have no clue what they are reporting on, or are so struck by the very idea of disabled people having sex that they fail to include most of the relevant information the rest of us need to understand what's actually happening. | What's the Difference Between Sex Work and Prostitution? Last week's newsletter began with a complaint about using the concept of semantics to shut down important discussions about difference. Here's a conversation starter about two terms that look and feel very different. | Wanting Sex While Caring for My Wife "I've been married for forty years, my wife now has Alzheimer's disease and no longer wants any form of sexual contact. I feel I need some intimate contact and sex, and wonder what my best course of action should be, to become active again. I fear the health implications of prostitutes. Any guidance would be helpful." | Blues Festival Ignores Legacy, Cancels Candye Kane Candye Kane is a beautiful performer, activist, singer, and all round human being. Her life and work touch most of the themes of this week's newsletter. Which is something the organizers of the Shelby Blues &BBQ Festival in Alabama don't seem to care for, even though they invited her to perform. | | | | Sexuality Ads | | | | Featured Articles | | | | | | Sign up for more free newsletters on your favorite topics | | | | You are receiving this newsletter because you subscribed to the About Sexuality newsletter.
