My bipolar diagnosis was missed through two years of psychotherapy and many years of counseling. The only psychiatrist I saw during that time (and only once, I didn't like him) thought I might have schizophrenia. Nobody ever took my symptoms of hypomania seriously until I began seeing my current psychiatrist in 1999.
