From Laura Dolson, your Guide to Low Carb Diets
At one point in my life, I decided I would never diet again. I was so tired of the roller coaster of weight loss, food obsessions, and the inevitable demoralizing weight regain. I also became interested (way back in my teens and twenties) in how people were successful keeping weight off. I watched friends, acquaintances, and members of support groups over the years, and realized that with rare exceptions they were NOT successful. To me, it was clear: our bodies did not want us to lose weight. Now we are finally figuring how our bodies fight back, so naturally I'm still fascinated! Have a great week - Laura

Why People Regain Weight
The good news: people who lose weight by adopting a low-carb way of eating for life are less likely to end up as fat or fatter than they started! The less-good news: that doesn't mean our bodies won't tend to rebel at a large weight loss. I report on a study which looked at nine chemicals in our body that make us want to eat more, and what happens when we lose weight. (More good news, BTW: we can still retain the health benefits of a low-carb diet even if we don't lose all the weight we'd like.)

Low-Carb Travel Guide
In the U.S., Thanksgiving is perhaps the holiday inspiring the most travel over a fairly short period of time. Time to think about food to have with you to make the trip low-carb! See also:

Eating with People who Eat Differently
Are you going to be spending a long weekend with people who eat low-fat, high junk food, or vegan? Here are some tips for how to get along, eating-wise -- and you can add your own. (Last Christmas, our daughter's vegan boyfriend joined us and I was able to make almost everything low-carb and vegan except for the turkey. I was quite proud of this!)

Carbs in Coffee Drinks
I'm not a big coffee drinker, but when traveling I'm more likely to hit the coffee cart in the airport or a Starbucks on the road. Unfortunately some of those tasty coffee drinks have a staggering amount of sugar. Here's a guide to the calories and carbs in those lattes and cappuccinos.
