| | Admittedly, this is a battle you won't win: gravity is gonna bring you back down, eventually. But it's fun to fly a little bit, either with help or on your own, before settling back to earth, where surrendering completely is also a useful practice. | | AntiGravity Yoga AntiGravity yoga makes use of a silky hammock suspended from the ceiling to introduce flight to your practice. This fitness trend, which is becoming increasingly available in gyms and specialized studios, is a fun way to explore supported inversions and backbends. | Lift Off With Arm Balances Once you get the hang of holding up your body with only your hands on the ground, arm balances are a fun and powerful way to build your strength and balance. | Surrender to the Ground At the end of a yoga session comes one of the most beneficial poses: savasana. While it seems like it should be easy to just lie on the ground, relaxing the body completely to the pull of gravity is tougher than you'd think. Next time you take savasana, scan the body and see if you are holding tension anywhere. Placing a blanket on top of yourself is also a nice way to weigh yourself down. | Pose of the Week- Upavista Konasana Upavista konasana is a pose that can benefit a lot from the judicious application of props. I like to do a more restorative version of the pose, in which you build up a nice tower of bolsters or blankets to support your upper body when you come forward. If you hold the pose for five minutes or more, you will probably notice a second wave of release that allows you to deepen a bit. When this happens, remove the top blanket from your stack and relax again. | | | | Yoga Ads | | | | Featured Articles | | | | More from About.com | | | | | | 10 Bathroom Remodels There's nothing worse than a bathroom remodel that looks like it belongs in a gas station.
