From Laura Dolson, your Guide to Low Carb Diets
Every year I gather the highlights of the low-carb news I reported on my blog for that year, dividing it between science reporting and nwes and opinion pieces. (Here are the highlights from previous years.) This year, I'm belatedly getting together my lists for 2011, and I thought I'd share some of the best news from last year. This week, I focus on some of the signs in 2011 of changing attitudes towards low-carb eating. Also, there's a new Atkins cookbook out, and I got to chat with the author last week. Have a great week! Laura

New Atkins Cookbook
Last year saw the publication of the book The New Atkins for a New You, which I highly recommend. Now the companion cookbook, The New Atkins for a New You Cookbook by Colette Heimowitz has been released. Last week I had the opportunity to chat for a few minutes with Ms. Heimowitz, and also chef and Food Network personality Donatella Arpaia, who is using the Atkins diet to shed weight after having a baby last year.

Experts Admit Carbs Cause Health Problems
We started out last year with some good news, where experts talked about carbs in the diet being the problem, not fat. Some of those experts are from the Harvard School of Public Health, which later urged dieticians and food industry professionals to take a pledge to "end the low-fat myth". Even the Reader's Digest had a great low-carb article.

ADA Shifting Its Stance on Carbs?
In March, I was even more astonished when the American Diabetes Association came out with information about low-carb eating in its magazine.

Consumer Reports: Mixed Message About Low-Carb
Jenny Craig dubbed "the best", but they spend almost half the article talking about low-carb...hmmm.

The question, of course, is "did any of this do any good"? I would say "not yet very visibly", but traffic to my site is quite a lot higher than last year, which I take as a sign that people are catching on.
