From Pam Stephan, your Guide to Breast Cancer
There are two reasons to watch your hips: extra weight is unhealthy for you - and if you took chemo and/or aromatase inhibitors, you may need to have your bone density checked. Read on to find out why!

Breast Cancer Survivors - Watch Your Hips!
I was 47 when I finished chemo for breast cancer. Chemo drop-kicked me into early menopause, and follow-up hormonal therapy kept my estrogen levels very low. I was surprised when my nurse practitioner sent me for a bone density scan, but she was right to be concerned. I had developed osteopenia - bone thinning. A recent study may explain how this happens.

Getting Stuck For Chemotherapy
During my mastectomy, I had an infusion port implanted. I didn't really want one - I thought it was just to make it easier on the nurses to pump chemo into me. Later, I realized it was there to protect my veins and reduce the number of needle sticks I'd have to get! But there are many other ways to take IV chemo. You can take the tour here.

Love Your Lycopene
Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that may reduce your risk of breast cancer and heart disease. You'll find lycopene in bright red fruits and vegetables. And if you add olive oil when cooking some tomatoes for pasta sauce, you'll enhance the power of lycopene to neutralize free radicals, thus preventing oxidative damage to your cells. Healthy cells have the most resistance to cancer.

Natural Sweeteners - Eating Healthy to Stay Healthy
Valentine's Day is coming up quickly! That makes me think of chocolates, flowers, and a nice meal. Are you preparing some sweet for your sweetie? Here's a good comparison of 14 natural sweeteners that are lower on the glycemic index - and healthier for you - than refined sugar.
