From Shereen Jegtvig, your Guide to Nutrition
This week the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010 was released and I've got the highlights for you. I'll also help you know how many servings of vegetables you need every day and help you beat your sugar cravings.

Have a great week,

Shereen

Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010
Every five years, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Health and Human Services (HHS) jointly update and publish a set of guidelines designed to help Americans improve their health by making wise dietary decisions. The most recent guidelines were just released today.

How Many Vegetables Do You Need Each Day?
Vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals and generally low in calories. Unfortunately, most people don't eat enough of them. Use my vegetable serving guide to learn how many servings you need.

Conquering Your Sugar Cravings
The problem with sugar cravings is that most sweet treats are high in calories buy low in nutrition. And those extra calories lead to extra pounds that can leave you overweight or obese. I think I can help you tame your sweet tooth with some information, tips and even some help from About.com Nutrition readers:

Foods to Help Prevent Colds and Flu
Food and healthy lifestyle choices boost your immune system, and that can prevent you from coming down with colds and flu. The key is not waiting until you get sick to make these changes; you need to revamp your diet and lifestyle before the cold and flu bugs get to you.
