From Ann Pizer, your Guide to Yoga
What makes you anxious? While many anxiety disorders require prescription medications and therapy, it's also useful to have some coping techniques in your arsenal. When I felt myself headed toward full meltdown on a plane (my personal idea of a really bad time) recently, I dipped into the yoga bag of tricks.

Coping Techniques
The greatest tool yoga can offer is the breath. Learn how to use focused breathing, optionally in concert with mantra, to regain control.

Introduction to Pranayama
Pranayama is the practice of learning to control your breath and thus direct your energy. Your breath is something that you don't have to think about much: as long as you are alive, it continues going in and out of your body. However, breathing in specific ways can calm you down, energize you, warm you up, or cool you off. Find out more about pranayama here.

Yoga for Stress
Learning a few calming techniques derived from yoga is great, but did you know that a consistent yoga practice can significantly reduce your over all stress? Find out how yoga works to combat stress.

Pose of the Week - Little Thunderbolt - Laghu Vajrasana
We practiced a prep version of laghu vajrasana in class this week with a partner. The partner holds your hips from the front so you can get a feel for the drop back to the floor. Or, as in my case, in the general direction of the floor. For a similiar, but less intense, back bend, I suggest our old friend camel.
